It took eight years of groundwork for Edward Cummings to become an overnight success.
Edward led in the first stakes winner since he joined his father Anthony in a training partnership when Top Of My List led throughout to win the Group 3 JRA Plate (2000m) at Randwick a month after the younger Cummings earned his trainer’s licence.
Edward has had some outstanding mentors to provide him with the perfect grounding to become a trainer in a journey that began when he decided to head into racing full-time after completing a communications degree at the University of New South Wales.
Edward started working for Anthony at Randwick before he headed overseas to continue his development.
Edward took the opportunity to hone his talent with thoroughbreds working for the great international trainer Aidan O’Brien at his Ballydoyle stables in Ireland before capping off his racing education with his grandfather, Australian training legend Bart Cummings.
Edward resumed working with Anthony on 2012, enjoying a period of wonderful success with the stable with multiple Group 1 winner Fiveandahalfstar, BTC Cup winner Your Song with consistently terrific results stretching to recent times with high-class racetrack performers Man From Uncle, Vergara, Hieroglyphics and the team’s latest Group winner Top Of My List.
With Edward joining Anthony Cummings at the head of the exciting venture, the Randwick-based operation is set to continue as one of Sydney’s top stables for many years to come.
