Skyline Blush Denies Peter Moody Treble

The Anthony Cummings-trained Skyline Blush made it three wins from her last five starts when proving too good for her opposition in the Ruben Guthrie In Cinemas Benchmark 70 Handicap (2000m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Cummings said Skyline Blush has been slow to relish stable life but as she's gone deeper into the campaign she's learned to adapt which her racing record shows.

"This is the first time in the preparation where she's done well in the stable and actually put on some weight on the way through," Cummings said.

"I thought she presented the best she has today, looking nice and fit and ready for the 2000 (metres)."

Skyline Blush raced up near the speed before jockey Brenton Avdulla eased the daughter of Northern Meteor out three wide nearing the 600 metres to allow her to stride up within striking distance.

Entering the straight, Got You Double, which had stalked Skyline Blush throughout, cruised up to apply pressure and the pair left the opposition standing but Avdulla still had something to offer on his mount and she fought back to score.

"He loomed up but I was jogging too," Avdulla said. "I never hit my filly until the 150. You've got to save something for the finish.

"She's progressive this filly. Two runs back on the firmer surface I thought she went better for me.

"I don't think she's as happy on these softer tracks but she's racing so well she's coping with them."

Skyline Blush ($9.50) defeated the Peter Moody-trained Got You Double ($4.80 eq fav) by a head with Paul Perry's Montrer Dame ($7.50) a further 2-1/4 lengths back in third. The other $4.80 equal favourite Drum Roll finished seventh.

Cummings indicated Skyline Blush will continue her campaign with her eligibility in the BOBS bonus scheme ending in 19 days while early spring black-type targets are also possibilities.

"She's done a good job and she'll be better when the tracks dry out," he said. "She's handling it but with firmer footing she'll be better for sure.

"I think there is some nice upside to her."
