Skyline Blush Defies Drift to Score Again
Aug 03, 2015
Skyline Blush brought her earnings this preparation to a healthy $167,500 after her win last Wednesday at Canterbury in a Fillies and Mares Benchmark 70 over 1900 meters.
It was a strong showing following on from her gutsy win a fortnight earlier at Randwick and defied a betting drift that suggested she would not figure in the finish.
Brenton Avdulla, riding in career best form this season, bounced her out of the gates in a positive fashion, riding her forward to sit just off the lead. As the pace slackened, Hugh Bowman decided to chance his arm at taking the lead from mid-field, scouting around Skyline Blush and settling just in front. This worked in her favour as she was able to switch off very well before being asked to improve from the 600 meter mark. Skyline Blush was travelling best as the field entered the straight and pulled away to win easily, scoring by a length and a half.
The win has earnt Skyline Blush a reduced work routine here in the stable, where she will bide her time as she builds condition before being aimed towards the Golden Pendant and Angst Stakes over 1600m. Depending on her results in each of these races, she may or may not head down to Melbourne for her chance at claiming valuable Spring riches and black-type status.
