Vergara Stays Home, Attempts Randwick Mile

After deliberating over a potential trip to Queensland for the Tatt's Tiara, we have decided that staying home in Sydney is a much better option for Vergara for many reasons. Firstly, as fourth emergency, we were very unlikely to gain a start even with the poor weather up-state. Secondly, Saturday's BM90 over the famous Randwick Mile presents too great an opportunity to pass up, as Vergara competes against a field that she has - for the most part - disposed of easily at her previous outing. Coming in at 54.5kg's also sweetens her prospects. Thirdly and lastly, with a view for towards the spring Vergara will have more in the 'tank' by staying home rather than taking on a long trip in the middle of winter, with wet tracks and driving rain all around us. Vergara is fit and well and has maintained her form from her last start which we believe will have her ready to go on Saturday.

The Stable has been enjoying a run of winners recently, with Skyline Blush and Fulfilled Promise both proving too good in their respective events over the last eleven days. Skyline Blush, as a daughter of Northern Meteor (from Cara Y Cruz), further highlights the loss her sire is to the industry. As a G1 winner over 1200m, Northern Meteor has to date predominantly sired sprinter-milers, but has showed his versatility with successful matings with mares from middle-distance families. Skyline Blush will now head towards the Significant Stakes over 1900m next Saturday at Rosehill and we expect her to improve again.

Fulfilled Promise (2yo filly by Choisir) found the line with great determination on Wednesday at Warwick Farm, proving her class in a tight finish. Though not yet fully mature, Fulfilled Promise showed further improvement from her previous run where she showed her acceleration after settling at the tail of the field. Tim Clark expertly settled her at the tail again on Wednesday before allowing her to stride forward to sit behind the leader. She was the last to come off the bit and had to find quite a bit to firstly pick up the leader and then stave off a challenge from the Paul Perry trained Cosmic Energy. It was a bold effort for her first trip at 1400m, and after pulling up well on Thursday morning we are contemplating a run either next Saturday in another 1400m race, or waiting until the 11th of July.
